Right now I’m just ecstatic that the Greek symbol for Omega pasted into the title from the symbol that I copied from a Microsoft Word document. I’m running this blog on Godaddy’s website builder platform and it’s not as expansive a format as WordPress is. Now that that’s over, on to the anime!
If you think of How Not To Summon A Demon Lord as an Isekai anime with tons of fanservice, you’d be right! How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ω starts right out of the gates with tons of fanservice that the 13 to 18 male demographic will celebrate the best way they know how. No, I’m not going to describe it here. This is not that type of site.
At this point I’m actually wondering if I’ll keep reviewing this anime. The first season went a little bit over the top with the summoning of the Demon Lord Krebskulm. That was on top with the typical unrealistic behavior from the two female characters that summoned Diablo. It seems that How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ω wants to take things up to the next level.
The specific scene that I’m referring to is at the beginning of episode 1. Lumachina is the well endowed head of the Church who’s on the run from a paladin that commands summons. One of those summons just so happens to have tentacles. Those tentacles do they’re best to not just capture Lumachina, but also strip her of her clothes. Thankfully before anything pornographic happens Diablo falls from the sky and kills the summon.
Is this really necessary? There are places you can go to find this kind of stuff without having it in an anime that’s actually pretty entertaining. It’s disappointing to me that because How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ω wants to get as close as it can to crossing the line that I now can’t share it with others without feeling like a creep.
It’s a shame too because I love anime where the main character can put others in their place. That’s exactly what happens when Diablo defeats the paladin that’s after Lumachina’s life. I wasn’t able to fully enjoy the save because of Lumachina’s nearly naked body. Of course How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ω didn’t show anything, but it came as close as possible.
I realize this might not be a popular opinion to those who are into this kind of thing, but I wish How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ω would reign in the fanservice to a more tasteful level. I can’t believe I even just wrote that sentence. Fanservice is hardly tasteful at all.
Is How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ω Episode 1 Worth Watching?
I’m not going to lie here and say I’m not disappointed. How Not To Summon A Demon Lord Ω episode 1 has the bones of what looks to be a pretty fun anime to watch. I just can’t get past the blatant use of it’s female character’s bodies to please a specific audience. We’ll see if future episodes can be saved by a combination of good action, good story and good animation.
Now go watch some anime!
