How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω Episode 8 Review

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 8 reminds us that a well meaning novice is no match for a skilled manipulator in a debate. Lumachina may have good intentions and like to face problems head on, but she’s no match for Vishos. Too bad Diablo wasn’t allowed to go crazy here. I was really hoping to see some action.

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω Episode 7 Review

How well did episode 8 do in telling its story?

As far as a story is concerned, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 8 is pretty basic. Diablo leads a group of heroes on a mission to bring down a corrupt power structure. In this case, it’s the church that’s corrupt. Vishos is the Cardinal who’s behind everything and must be brought to justice.

As you’d expect, someone who’s made it that high up in a large organization is not going to take a challenge to his power without putting up a fight. Despite being confronted by the head priest, Vishos calmly fires back. He’s able to win over the crowd and put Diablo’s party in a tricky situation.

Basically, we’ll have to wait for the big fight in another episode of How Not to Summon a Demon Lord. Lumachina was rattled after her exchange of words with Vishos so it will be up to Diablo to save the day. That has to mean that he’ll end up fighting with the ominous looking beast that we saw at the end of episode 7.

What did you like about How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 8?

Personally, my favorite moment was the scene where Lumachina and Vishos were exchanging words. Lumachina’s feelings were out in the open. It was easy to tell that she was getting flustered. Vishos was a master craftsman in making Lumachina out to be the corrupted one.

Looking back, it was an incredibly serious moment in an anime episode that’s filled with awkward situations and a little bit of fanservice. I like it when How Not to Summon a Demon Lord goes in a more serious direction.

Besides that, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 8 did a good job of reintroducing Alicia. She popped up here in episode 8 and all I could think was “Who’s she again?” I did my best to remember but it was hopeless. It wasn’t until the brief recap of Alicia’s involvement in resurrecting Klem that I remembered who she was. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long for that explanation as I was just starting to ask that question when we were reminded of her backstory.

What did episode 8 get wrong?

If you’ve been reading my review of How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω then you probably already know where I’m going with this. The fanservice here in episode 8 was a bit much. Diablo and Rose were in a highly inappropriate situation. It was unnecessary.

If I was to have my preference, How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 8 would’ve spent more time on the main story rather than the petty fighting over Diablo’s attention. The whole deal with Horn contemplating becoming Diablo’s servant could’ve been skipped over. I’d rather think about how she’ll be treated after running away during the confrontation with Vishos.

Is How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 8 worth watching?

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 8 didn’t have a ton of the over the top fanservice, so that helps. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more fighting. That should be remedied in the next episode. Overall, I’d say that episode 8 was not too bad. It took us to where we need to go and that’s important. If you like this anime, you’ll need to watch episode 8.

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 9 preview

It looks like How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω episode 9 is going to have the action that I was hoping for in episode 8. The title of the episode is “Storm the Church” so there’s no way that everything stays peaceful. We’re shown a scene of a giant monster breaking free from its chains as well as Diablo unleashing a massive spell. We’ll just have to wait and see if everything gets wrapped up in one episode or not.

Now go watch some anime!
