Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 19 Review

Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 19 - Yuji Itadori using Black Flash

Once again Jujutsu Kaisen shows us why it’s one of the top anime of the Winter 2020 season!

I think the best place to start this review is with Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todou’s relationship. This may be the bromance of the year. Itadori and Todou have gone from strangers to brothers in the span of a few hours. It’s like they were destined to be best friends since before time began.

Todou’s mentorship of Itadori has had a profound effect for the first year from Tokyo Jujutsu High. With a newfound understanding of cursed energy, Itadori can show off his new skill, “Black Flash.” With this attack Itadori can cause Hanami to take some damage. This is something that the four previous students that fought the special-grade curse could barely do.

Before I get to the rest of the fight between Itadori, Todou and Hanami, let’s cover what happened prior to the new dynamic duo’s arrival. Jujutsu Kaisen episode 19 is trying to build up Hanami as a monster to be feared. If you remember, Hanami saved his fellow curse Jogou from Satoru several episodes ago.

Now it’s his time to shine as he attempts to kill the trio of Fushiguro, Kamo and Inumaki. It seems like the three have a pretty good strategy going for them as Inumaki’s cursed speech is able to stop Hanami while either Fushiguro or Kamo attack. Unfortunately Inumaki’s stamina doesn’t last and Kamo get’s knocked out.

Maki shows up just in time to keep the trio from getting slaughtered but it doesn’t take too long for Hanami to get the upper hand again. Considering how powerful the students have been portrayed to be I’d say Jujutsu Kaisen did a good job here with Hanami’s build up. You really get the feeling that he’s unstoppable.

I loved watching this action too. It was fast paced and unlike anything I’ve seen before. There may be other anime out there where the main characters have powers similar to the jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits from Jujutsu Kaisen but I can’t think of any off of the top of my head. Even if there are, the fighting that we’re shown is top notch. I didn’t want Jujutsu Kaisen episode 19 to stop!

Of all of the moves shown to us here, I particularly enjoyed watching the previously mentioned “Black Flash” and Inumaki using a strong word with his cursed speech. When Inumaki said “Blast Away!” all i could think was “holy S&%$”! That’s the furthest he’s gone so far.

“Black Flash” was also impressive. They did title the anime episode after it after all. Using this technique Itadori was finally able to land a substantial amount of damage on Hanami for the first time. Everyone else was only able to scratch the special grade cursed spirit. With something like this, it gives us hope that Itadori and Todou can save the day.

Now let’s get back to the bromance between Itadori and Todou. It added just the right level of silliness to Jujutsu Kaisen episode 19. We’ve seen Itadori become friends almost instantaneously before. He did that with Junpei not that long ago.

Todou has been a completely different case. He’s been almost universally disliked. It’s not that everyone hates him, he just gets on everyone else’s nerves. Todou’s obscene strength makes him a necessity on the battlefield but it really feels like he’s just tolerated.

Considering Itadori is strong in his own right, it makes perfect sense that the two idiots would become friends. I’d say their relationship can best be described as a close set of brothers. Todou is obviously the caring older brother who wants to see his talented yet raw younger brother surpass him one day. At least that’s what came across when Todou was scolding Itadori during his fight with Hanami.

As silly as it is, you can’t stop yourself from watching as the two hand-to-hand combat specialists take it to Hanami. With the fight far from over, we’ve got plenty to look forward to in Jujutsu Kaisen episode 20!

Is Jujutsu Kaisen episode 19 Worth Watching?

I don’t see how you get to this part and think my answer is anything other than yes. Jujutsu Kaisen episode 19 is worth watching. At least it’s worth watching if you’re a fan of action. Don’t come here thinking it’s going to be a slice-of-life adventure. Super best friends Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todou are taking on the evil cursed spirit Hanami with the power of brotherly love! Just make sure you don’t get caught up in the crossfire.

Now go watch some anime!
