For being an anime about exorcising curses, Jujutsu Kaisen sure is on the lighter side.
Jujutsu Kaisen is not what I expected so far, and that’s actually been a pleasant surprise. For an anime about exorcising curses, I expected a darker, more serious tone. Between episodes 1 and 2, we’ve seen plenty of humor and lighthearted fun.
Jujutsu Kaisen episode 2 starts from the beginning with this theme. Satoru Gojo, Megumi Fushiguro’s teacher, shows up just when Fushiguro is about to attack Itadori. He quickly steps in and plays with Itadori while the curse Sukuna was in control. The entire time Satoru Gojo was going on about the food he bought while sightseeing.
Satoru Gojo seems to be the character that’s incredibly powerful yet somewhat manipulative. Something like a Kisuke Urahara from BLEACH, just not as intelligent. He’s the one that keeps everyone on their toes through his antics. He matches up well with Itadori. The two seem to feed off of each other at Fushiguro’s expense.
To add to the cast of characters, we also get to meet the principle of Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High. He uses his cute looking curse to beat down Itadori during his entrance interview. The fight is just another ridiculous moment you wouldn’t expect from this type of anime. The curse is a cuddly little jack-ass that Itadori can’t beat. It takes plenty of opportunities to mock Itadori during the fight.
Thankfully this humor helps lighten the blow of the serious situation that Itadori finds himself in. His options at the moment are either be executed immediately or be executed after collecting all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers. If he choses to collect the fingers, Satoru promises Itadori that he’ll have to face some pretty harrowing experiences. Living the life of a Jujutsu sorcerer is not a pleasant one.
Jujutsu Kaisen episode 2 does leave us wanting to see more of Itadori vs Satoru. Satoru believes that he’d be victorious over Sukuna at full strength and Sukuna has singled out Satoru as the first sorcerer he wants to kill once he gains control over Itadori. It’s definitely something to look forward to.
I’ll also want to see how Itadori changes as he consumes more fingers. He’s been able to handle two so far, how many more can he get before he loses control of his body? I’m sure the boost in power will be both gradual and helpful as the anime progresses. It’s at least a good mechanic to use to have Itadori level up as things progress.
We’re still learning a lot about the world of Jujutsu Kaisen so I don’t have much more to share so far. Next episode we’ll get to meet the third, first-year student of Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High. She sees a little off but my guess is that she’s pretty powerful in her own right. It fits for this anime so far.
Is Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 2 Worth Watching?
Yes. This isn’t your serious anime about a group of people working in the background of society to eliminate curses. This is a humorous take on that type of story. It’s nice to have something like this from time to time. I’ve enjoyed this anime so far so I think it’s definitely worth a watch.
Now go watch some anime!
