Subaru Natsuki might be Emilia’s guardian angel.
I’m not going to say whether or not Subaru’s decision to return to the Roswaal mansion before finishing his treatment is a good decision or not. His reasons for doing so mainly revolve around his relationship with Emilia and wanting to make amends. Is it a good idea for Subaru to face Emilia after once again disregarding her request? Probably not, but the danger sensed at the mansion is too much for Subaru to stand.
That’s the premise for Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World episode 14. Subaru stayed in the royal capital to be healed only to leave before his treatment was completed once he learned there was an ominous vibe coming from the mansion. What we get is an anime episode that does nothing but build a sense of incredible danger that culminates in a horrible scene or death.
If Subaru wasn’t going to kill himself before then I think he’s going to do so now. There’s no way that he’s going to allow Rem or the people in the village to stay dead. Rem’s lifeless body is especially jarring for Subaru after she did what she did in this episode. The main thing I’m curious about now is how Subaru is going to prevent this from happening again.
When I think about this episode as a whole, I’m fully satisfied with what’s going on in the story. The dread and danger that’s overshadowing the entire episode really comes through as you get closer to Roswaal’s domain. Subaru’s interaction with the hooded group does nothing but make that ominous feeling even greater.
We’ve known there’s danger surrounding the selection of the next monarch since the beginning of the anime. Subaru’s first interaction with Emilia surrounded a plot to steal the pendant that certified Emilia as a candidate. The assassin that was Felt’s buyer was the stereotypical anime psychopath who’s obsessed with killing others.
The feeling I have right now is that she’s back to get her revenge on Emilia and she brought friends to help. Either that or there’s another dark organization out there who used the candidate selection as a pretense to attack Roswaal and Emilia. I get the feeling that we’ll get to find out what happens at the mansion multiple times over as Subaru struggles to find the most favorable outcome.
What this all boils down to is me sitting on the edge of my seat, wanting to just binge watch episode after episode. I debated writing the review for episode 14 before watching episode 15 for that reason. I didn’t want to get into a situation where I forgot where one episode ended and the other began like I did a little bit earlier. I guess I can stand not to know for a little while longer.
Is Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World Episode 14 Worth Watching?
Yes. Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World episode 14 is worth watching. Be warned, when Subaru makes it back to the village outside the mansion he runs into a pretty ugly sight. It only gets worse once he gets to the mansion. Those who don’t like violent scenes probably should skip over parts of this.
As for me, I’m hooked. I want to see more and I want to see more now! Thankfully I don’t have to wait a week for the next episode to be released. My only hope at this point is that the English dubs of season 2 will be done by the time I catch up to those episodes. I fully intend on going straight into season 2 when I get past season 1.
Now go watch some anime!
