Iruma finally has the opportunity to go back to the human world. What will he decide?
Ever since Iruma arrived in the netherworld there’s been the lingering question of whether or not he’s better off going back to the human world or staying put. It appears that Iruma has made up his mind to stay after the recent opportunity to go back was presented to him. I have to agree that this was his best course of action.
Anyone who’s watched the previous 19 episodes of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun will most likely agree that Iruma’s life is better in the netherworld. He has everything he could ask for, food, comfort, friends and the opportunity to go to school. Iruma’s life with his parents was more like Hell than the netherworld has been.
Before episode 20 gets to all of this, the Battler Party wraps up with the closing ceremony. In a twist, the Broadcast Battler wins the grand prize. I like it. It’s a twist that makes complete sense when you hear the explanation. The Broadcast Battler was able to keep its cool under stressful circumstances which helped keep Babyls from falling into chaos.
I also appreciate the fact that the Magic Apparatus Battler didn’t win the grand prize because it gives Iruma and friends something to aim for in the future. You can’t use up everything right away. With the grand prize slipping through their fingers this year, Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun can now use the pursuit of this prize as material whenever Iruma makes it to his second year.
The Magical Apparatus Battler did win a new award, the Tricky award. In doing so Iruma gained a rank, became more famous and has melded into demon society just a little bit more. He even has less qualms about singing the school song. You know, the one about eating humans.
This brings us into the second part of the episode where Iruma is presented the chance to go back home by Ameri’s father. He doesn’t come right out and say it, but the conversation hints at him knowing Iruma’s secret. It’s an interesting moment in Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun because it’s the first real opportunity Iruma has had to leave.
Now Iruma actually has to make a decision on whether or not he wants to stay. But before that can happen Ameri interrupts and initiates a scene that I think can only be truly appreciated by a father of a daughter. I know this episode holds a different meaning to me a year after first watching it.
I have a 2 year old daughter. She’s now getting to the point where she can verbalize her thoughts to my wife and I. Just this past week, my daughter came up to me to tell me tattle on her 5 year old brother. It was the cutest thing in the world because she’s the cutest little girl in the world. That’s an objective fact.
When Ameri starts talking to her father about what she and Iruma have been doing, I can relate now to how he must feel. While Ameri’s father takes the conversation a bit out of proportion, his reaction is not too off for the typical father. It’s like watching Father of the Bride in anime form. This part was actually the highlight of the episode for me just for this reason.
Is Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Episode 20 Worth Watching?
Yes. Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun episode 20 is worth watching. The Battler Party is brought to a close and Iruma makes a decision on his future. I didn’t even mention the scene where Sullivan demonstrated just how much more powerful he is than other high ranking demons. It’s a good thing he doesn’t want to eat Iruma.
You end episode 20 with a similar feeling that you get from episode 19. Iruma has found a home and you can’t be happier for him. Now all that’s left for him is to become Demon King.
Now go watch some anime!
