I’m about to do a little bit of complaining here. It’s not because of this episode of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, but because I had my review of episodes 2 and 3 wiped out by WordPress issues. I spent a decent amount of time recapping everything that happened only to have all of that work disappear.
If you’re wondering, WordPress can start acting weird if cookies are enabled. Because of these issues, I modify this site solely on the Firefox browser. There is even an option to have cookies wiped out after closing the browser which I now have checked. That way I won’t ever have to worry about losing a post due to WordPress issues again.
What’s been going on in the anime up to this point?
Since I can’t point back to other reviews that I’ve done on this anime, I’ll recap here. Ameri was worried about Iruma because she thinks he likes to wear frilly, fluffy outfits. She suspends the Magical Apparatus Battler and forces Iruma, Asmodeus and Clara to try out different battlers. Next, Ameri enlists Iruma into the student council.
While Iruma is with the student council, Ameri is attacked and spritzed with a potion that makes her docile. Sensing a power vacuum, the head of the Disciplinary Battler makes a grab for power. Ronove Romiere, the aforementioned head of the Disciplinary Battler, initiates an election that he’s confident he’ll win. It’s up to Iruma and the other Student Council members to try and get Ameri back to normal.
How is the story in episode 4?
I actually think there was a good balance in this episode of ridiculousness and story progression. Ronove Romiere is one of those annoying anime characters that doesn’t add too much. Typically I wish that these types of characters would just not exist. They get in the way of what I really want to see. Ronove doesn’t quite reach that threshold.
His self-indulgent singing, in a Latin style, is kind of catchy. It reminds me of Clara’s family songs in the first season of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun only in a different style. Ronove’s song matches his personality. It’s all flash with very little substance. You’d have to be an idiot to want someone like him to be the president of the student body.
Ameri is in no condition to fight back though. She’s the perfect example of why my wife hates watching anime sometimes. Ameri is weak, docile, gentle to a fault and appears to only be able to exist with the help of others. It’s like we’re watching the weakest of damsels in distress here in episode 4.
It’s not until Ameri is forced to look into the faces of all of the other students that she’s able to get over the mental block that was keeping her subdued. Watching her snap back to her old self and utterly crush Ronove in the election was a pretty satisfying moment I have to admit. To top everything off, Asmodeus and Clara were able to track down the culprit of Ameri’s attack. We’re all left pretty satisfying.
Was there anything wrong with this episode of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun?
While I’m not surprised, I have gotten used to Iruma being in the right place at the right time to be the hero. Continuing to use this will probably end up with the anime becoming stale. I understand that he’s the hero of the anime who’s destined to become the demon king, but still. Right now it feels like Iruma is on a lucky streak that will never end. This isn’t a big gripe, but it is still a nagging annoyance.
I also have this feeling that the teachers should’ve done something when Ronove was making all of his crazy promises to the students. There’s no way he was going to be able to deliver on everything he wanted. Ronove basically wanted to turn the school into an amusement park. Last time I checked, the faculty and administration makes the call on how a school is set up. Not the student body president. You’d think a teacher would step in somewhere to shut his daydreams down. Especially someone like Kalego.
Is Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 2 Episode 4 Worth Watching?
This is one of those anime where you have to be in the right mood to watch it. Episode 4 follows along in that path. I enjoyed it because it provided me with a good bit of humor and fun. If that’s what you’re looking for then give it a try. If you’re in the mood for something else, skip it.
I’ve come to really like the relationships that have been built up in this anime. Ameri now recognizes that she’s in love with Iruma. Asmodeus and Clara have shown themselves to be good friends to Iruma. Iruma is just an all around good person. I get a great deal of satisfaction watching all of them interact here.
Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Episode 5 Preview
There’s a party at Sullivan’s mansion for Iruma. It looks like he invites Asmodus and Clara to join in the festivities. There appears to be fun, dancing and a game or two. We’re shown a brief look at an angry looking Sullivan. My suspicions are that something happened to disrupt the party. It’s either that or he’s playing a part in a game. Overall, episode 5 appears that it’s going to be a lot of fun.
Now go watch some anime!
