Fire Force Season 2 Episode 20 Review

Fire Force Season 2 Episode 20 - Knights of the Purple Haze
Orochi and her crew

With the operation into the Nether just underway, events have escalated quickly.

Fire Force Season 2 Episode 19 Review

The White Clad appear to be on to the Fire Force’s plans. From the very beginning, Fire Force Company 2’s squads are attacked and suffer heavy casualties. The bodies of the dead squad members are reanimated and come back to fight their comrades. The situation does not look good for this operation.

Most of the action of Fire Force season 2 episode 20 is around the squad that has Tamaki and Juggernaut. They’re attacked just like everyone else and Tamaki, Juggernaut, and squad leader Hajiki get separated from the rest of the group. Hajiki takes care of the infernals surrounding them only to get his head chopped off by a member of Ritsu’s Knights of the Purple Haze.

Orochi, Knight of the Purple Haze member, can use a fire whip to tear apart her enemies. Tamaki’s is the first one to face her and is overwhelmed quickly. Thankfully Tamaki’s high tolerance to flame keeps her from dying instantly but it does mean she has to suffer. Juggernaut jumps in after getting over his fear to take over the fight.

Juggernaut is fighting an uphill battle. His ability to regenerate his clothing helps keep him alive but he’s unable to land a hit on Orochi. Juggernaut is finally able to generated a fire bomb large enough to get through Orochi’s defense and appears to sacrifice himself to take her down.

Fire Force Season 2 Episode 20 - Juggernaut and Orochi
Juggernaut about to face Orochi

I was not expecting an episode like this from Fire Force. The joint operation didn’t even get to the point where it discovered anything before being confronted by Orochi and her knights. I wonder if the other squads will end up finding anything out?

I did feel bad for the Fire Soldiers who died. We got to see glimpses of their lives outside of the battle and it’s depressing knowing that they’re leaving loved ones behind. Of the three flashbacks we saw, the only soldier to not die was the one looking forward to wearing brand new sneakers. The soldier about to get married and the soldier about to become a father didn’t make it. That seems kind of messed up.

Watching squad leader Hajiki get decapitated after demonstrating his abilities was something I’d expect more from Attack on Titan rather than Fire Force. I believe this might be the first time in Fire Force where a character has died so suddenly. I’m left wondering why Fire Force spent so much time showing us that Hajiki was a force to be reckoned with.

While the story is one we’ve seen plenty of times, watching Juggernaut jump in and fight to protect Tamaki was fun to watch. You can’t help but cheer him on as he pushes his limits to save the girl he has feelings for. Hopefully he’ll make it out of this fight alive.

Is Fire Force Season 2 Episode 20 Worth Watching?

Yes. Fire Force season 2 episode 20 is worth watching. It’s the start of some pretty intense action. Fire Force Company 2 has already taken some heavy losses, will Fire Force Company 8 come out unscathed? I guess we’ll just have to watch to find out.

Now go watch some anime!
