It looks like Subaru is one of those characters that thrusts himself into the middle of major political issues without knowing exactly what he’s getting into.
Subaru knows that Emilia is a candidate to become the next monarch. He’s known this for a while now yet he still insists on trying to win over her affections. If he wants to win over Emilia he’s going to have to do a better job at listening to her and considering her feelings.
The series of events in Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World episode 12 are pretty unbelievable. Literally, it’s a stretch to believe that what I just watched could actually happen. Think about it, Subaru just so happened to run into another candidate who had been confronted by the same group of thugs that hassled him back at the beginning of the anime.
This other candidate just so happened to take an interest in Subaru, if only to spite Emilia, and let him accompany her into the meeting. I find it pretty hard to believe that Subaru, who’s basically a servant at this point, would be allowed to go this far even at the request of someone so powerful. It gets even more unbelievable when he gets inside the meeting.
Inside, we see that Subaru has managed to become familiar with several members of elite society. For someone who has no discernible skills, he’s doing pretty well for himself. If he hadn’t gone through so many deaths I’d suspect that this is one of those anime where the main character manages to have everything go their way.
Despite the fact that Subaru seems to have everything fall into his lap in episode 12, I found that my attention was glued to what was going on. The drama and intrigue surrounding the election of another monarch got even juicer when Felt was introduced as the fifth candidate. If you remember from earlier, the stone that Felt had stolen from Emilia had resonated with her and Reinhard had taken her away.
Adding Felt to the mix should shake things up as she’s a former thief and peasant. Everyone else who’s a candidate for the throne appears to have been raised in high society. I’m sure that will be a point of contention with at least one or two of the other candidates. With Reinhard’s support, Felt will also be a pretty formidable candidate as well.
You gotta love drama and politics, especially when they have no effect on the real world. I’ll pass on getting into real world politics, the stuff in anime is far more entertaining.
Is Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World Episode 12 Worth Watching?
Yes. Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World episode 12 is worth watching. I just have a lot of fun watching all of the situations Subaru manages to get himself into. Now that he’s inserted himself into the major political happenings of the day I’m sure he’ll end up finding himself in even more dangerous situations. That means we can look forward to some more painful deaths on his part. That should be fun to watch!
Now go watch some anime!
